Welcome! Thanks for checking out my work. I release new images frequently so I hope you'll come by often.
I'm a nature photographer and digital video producer based in Northern Virginia. I work full-time at Bullis School in Potomac, MD teaching digital media and creating videos about the awesome stuff our students and teachers do everyday.
My wife Betty and I are avid backpackers and spend as much time as we can in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We love our home state, but whenever we have a chance, we travel out west to where our hearts truly lie.
I've been doing nature photography since 2015 when Betty and I traveled to China to visit her family. I bought a cheap used APS-C camera, a couple lenses, and just about every book I could find about landscape photography. I was obsessed immediately and, at every opportunity, began producing images that I'm too embarrassed to share now. Over the past few years, I've spent nearly every free minute experimenting and learning my craft, scouring topo maps, and planning backpacking trips.
I've been fortunate to get to lead student workshops in Iceland and have photographed mountains, deserts, waterfalls, and forests in Utah, California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Tennessee, Maine and Iceland in the past few years. Of all the places I've been, Death Valley is my favorite.
I was hooked by the prospect of photographing sprawling iconic landscapes under colorful skies, and I hardly took my 16-35mm lens off during my first year of shooting. These days, my goal is to reach more remote places where I can find solitude and shoot more intimate scenes, but I still love making images of alpenglow creeping down iconic peaks. Shoot me an email if you have any questions about my images, the equipment I use, or if you would like to purchase a print.
